Ok, as I approached middle age (aka my forties) I made the conscious decison for the first time in my life to get into shape. First step was to join a bootcamp. Problem was with two kiddies, a full time job and a hubby there was really no available time. So I decided that exercise was more important than sleep and took the plunge into a 6AM class. After a few months I got used to getting up before dawn and going to sleep at the same time as my 3 year old and decided to kick it up a notch. I had met a few fellow nutbars from bootcamp and somehow made the conscious decision to start running in addition to bootcamp. But when to find the time? My fellow running pals also had kiddies, jobs, husbands and little time. So we came up with the only reasonable, practical plan. Run BEFORE the 6am bootcamp. So for the past number of months now we get up at 4:30AM (yup - you read that right folks) to run at 5am 3-4days a week. We lovingly dub this Crack of Stupid/Crazy. Seriously - who needs that extra hour of sleep? Wimps!!
There are six of us on Team Awesome (because Team Crazy was already taken) - S, J, T, M, K & moi. All different but amazing and have jelled us to the most awesome group!
S - energetic, positive and committed she is the one least likely to sleep through her alarm and most likely to be supportive and make you believe that what you are doing is not nuts. She would win the requires least amount of sleep award and has been known to survive a week on 3 hours of sleep.
J - solid, dependable and like S positive and committed. At present she is geographically transplanted but is part of us in every way!! We miss her so! Thank god for emails.....
K- leave it to K to research, coordinate and evaluate our runs. She can find a route to match any run within a 20 KM radius of our house! If you have a problem Karen will find the solution. She is our organizer extradinaire!
T- Momma to three under the age of 5 and makes us tired thinking about it! She is the baby of our group and the only one not yet a number beginning with the letter "F". She has been known to go to sleep before 8pm to make our 5am runs.
M - Works insane hours but yet still keeps to the running! We are all still waiting to see her really run fast. When the rest of us are working like dogs she is barely breaking a sweat - but don't dare try pass her - she'll kick it into overdrive and blow you away!
Moi - the "wannabe runner" I drag my butt out of bed because I don't want anyone running by themselves sort of gal. I am also well versed with Google and can instantly be an expert on most any topic. My fellow members of Team Awesome find me witty - a notion not shared by the hubby or kids and the reason I love them so!
With our first 10 mile race successfully completed we have set our sights on our first group half marathon - follow my chronicles as we prepare for this Awesome Event!
